Comic Competition Overload Competition

Submissions are now open for Overload 2014’s comic competition. This is an opportunity to test your comic skills and get your art noticed! Entries need to be submitted before September 27th. Winners will be announced and prizes awarded live at the Overload convention. Want to know more? Read on.

COMPETITION  RULES 
1 – The Comic must be at least 6 pages long, with a maximum length of 24 pages excluding cover pages. You must submit a reproduction of your comic, printed on paper (no larger than A4 size), preferably as a booklet. No original artwork please; the entry will not be returned.
2 – With the exception of background images the work must be HAND DRAWN – no usage of 3D models or photographs. It must be created using one, or a combination, of the following; pen, pencil, PC tablet or inking tools. Both black & white and colour entries are equally acceptable.
3 – The FULL NAME and CONTACT NUMBER (Phone or Mobile) of the applicant needs to be written on the back of the submitted comic for identification purposes.
4 – Only one entry may be submitted per person/group, individuals must not be a member of multiple groups.
5 – With the exception of background images only original artwork, stories and characters are acceptable. Works infringing on Copyright and Trademark law, or those which are derivatives of public domain works, will not be accepted; the work submitted must be your own.
6 – You may use any type of background image as long as it is in the public-domain, royalty free, your own work or licensed for use in your comic. Please make sure to check on copyright requirements before submission.
7 – Any comic theme may be offered for entry but it is recommended that it be Comic, Graphic Novel, Manga, Anime styled or influenced. If you have any doubts then please contact the Overload 2014 committee (graphicnovelcafe@gmail.com), and we will answer your questions.
8 – Comic competition entries will be on display to the public, and therefore all works must adhere to the legal standards of good taste and decency.
9 – If you wish to enter the competition but will not be physically present, then you can still mail/courier your application to be submitted for entry [see application section below.] However, Entries from outside New Zealand will not be accepted.
10 – By submitting your work you grant Overload the right to use your submitted entries for the promotional and marketing activities of both Overload and our prize sponsor. You still retain the copyright of your work.
11 – In submitting your work you agree to abide by these rules, under penalty of disqualification. The judge’s decision is final and no correspondence shall be entered into.

Required details will be Name, Age, Gender, Email Address and Postal Address. The final work needs to be submitted physically, either in person or by mail to the Graphic Novel Cafe.

Winning entries will receive one prize each, meaning that if a group submission wins then it will get one prize. Check rule 4 regarding submission restrictions in this regard.
